We spent four years serving the Lord with Bible Centered Ministries International in Lima, Peru (March ’09-Dec. ’12). Brian was in charge of the maintenance of the facilities and Lisa home schooled, in English, 5 Peruvian missionary children. You can read more about our time in Peru by clicking on the category “Life in Peru.”
In November 2012, we were asked to consider joining a new ministry, back in eastern Pennsylvania. By April 2013, we knew this was where God was taking us and we came on staff at Missionary Retreat Fellowship in Lake Ariel, PA.
This is a beautiful, 55-acre, housing facility for missionaries and Christian ministry workers. There are 7 homes, different sizes and layouts, all completely furnished and move-in ready. Missionaries rent the homes at a reasonable rate and stay for one night up to one year.
We are in charge of anything to do with the homes themselves. Brian does all the maintenance, repairs, and remodeling. We work together to make sure the homes are ready for guests and cleaned when the residents move out. We plan events (baby showers, Christmas dinner, etc) and help the missionaries feel at home during whatever transition time they are currently in.
We are still with our mission board, though! We do quite a bit of work with BCM International. We are representatives and recruiters, so we travel to area universities and churches and represent BCM as a whole. Brian is on the website team and has done a complete overhaul of the BCM Int’l website; Lisa writes a weekly internal newsletter and magazine articles for our e-zine, BCM World, of which Brian does the layout and publishing online. Lisa is also a teacher trainer using BCM’s curriculum In Step with the Master Teacher.
In May of 2013, Lisa was hired by our sending church, Grace Bible Church, as the children’s ministry director. She is head of six different children’s ministry programs. Brian is now a deacon and is in charge of all the tech/sound areas and he does maintenance at the church on a regular basis. We love being able to serve the church that took such good care of us while we were in Lima for four years!
And then, of course, there’s our most important job:
Being mom and dad to the best kids on earth.
