Easter is the reason we do what we do. The Apostle Paul says it better than we can:
“And if Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your trust in God is useless. And we apostles would be all lying about God, for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave, but that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation for your sins. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ have perished! And if we have hoped in Christ only for this life, we are the most miserable people in the world. But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again… Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?… How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord!” -1Cor.15:14-19, 54c-55, 57
Christ is raised! Death has been conquered! We have a reason for living and a hope for eternity because of what we celebrate Easter Sunday. It’s not about bunnies or spring or chocolate. It’s about the entire pinnacle of our faith. Without the resurrection, like Paul says, we are the most miserable of all people. But with it… with the resurrection – we are by far the most blessed.
Our debt has been paid in full. Our eternities are secure. Our lives are forever changed. Praise God for the early morning dawning of that Sunday so long ago!
