Well, plans are falling into place! We went to New Jersey today and got the official visa stamps in our passports. These are religious worker visas, but they are good for a lifetime, with an annual renewal fee. We paid nothing today, which actually surprised us. Even though we had to wait an hour and a half, that was completely do-able! We are so thankful that we got this done in just two quick trips to Jersey.
We bought our plane tickets last Friday as well. We are driving from PA to Pensacola, Florida, the week of Feb. 22. From Pensacola, we will go with Shawn and Britany (Lisa’s brother and wife) down to Clearwater for a few days’ vacation. We fly from Tampa, FL, on the morning of March 3. We have one (7-hour) layover in Ft. Lauderdale before we make the last (5-hr) flight to Lima that evening.
We’ll be in Lima a whole 3 days before leaving for Iquitos (see previous post). When we get back, it’ll be approaching winter in Lima and time for school to start for Lisa. We got word last week that our housing fund is almost at 100% and we got the go-ahead to begin building as soon as possible when we arrive. This is awesome news! We are so excited that we might have a house long before we expected to. Our sending church, Grace Bible Church, is planning on sending a team down to Peru later this summer/early fall. We are already so excited that we’ll be able to see familar faces so soon after we arrive. This isn’t completely ideal for adjustment purposes, but it will sure help us out with getting some much-needed household supplies down to us.
The next couple of weeks are going to be full of packing and last-minute shopping. Please pray that we would pack wisely! There’s a pretty good possibility that we’ll be able to bring only 4 suitcases instead of 6, which would greatly reduce what we can bring and cause us to be much more wise in our planning. Lisa’s sister will arrive next week and we have a few other friends coming for our commissioning service on the 22nd.
