Update on Trip

Well, we made it back from South Dakota last night in one piece!! Thank you to all who prayed. It was a loooooong trip out there. We thought we’d be missing most of the weather, but instead, we drove into a ton of it. We drove 14 hours on January 8th and stopped in Iowa City, Iowa, to spend the night with friends. We drove through a little bit of snow that morning, but nothing bad. When we left Friday morning for South Dakota, we thought it looked perfectly fine, but then we started hearing on the radio that a storm was moving through later that day. Well, we drove right into it. An hour outside of South Dakota, it started sleeting, then it changed to freezing rain, and then an all-out blizzard when we hit South Dakota! Here’s a picture from the drive. Notice that on the left side of the road, going south, you can see the vehicles coming towards us, but in front of us, you can see nothing. That “nothing” is a giant snow plow! Just between Sioux City, Iowa, and Sioux Falls, SD, we saw 15 cars in the ditch…over half were cars that passed us, all mad that we were going so slow!

We finally made it to Belle Fourche, SD, on the 9th, at 10:30pm, only 2 hours later than we’d planned. We stayed until this past Saturday, the 17th, and were really glad we took the time to go out there. We enjoyed seeing our friends and Brian’s family. We spent a lot of time with our friends’ 6 month old baby boy, Braden, who we didn’t think we’d meet for the first time until he turns in 2! We found out some other friends are moving to Texas in February, so we got to see them one last time as well. The Lord is so gracious to us.

We left the 17th and drove back down to Iowa City, but we were way-laid yet again with bad weather. Our 12-hour trip expanded to about 15 1/2!! This time, we saw upwards of 40 cars, plus 9 tractor trailers that were in the ditch. The semis were either on their side, on their roof, or had slid a mile down the median. The wind was tornado strength, making the roads slippery with all the blowing snow. It was a long, slow trip to Iowa! We were so glad to get to our friends’ house when we did! The next morning, we added to our totals of cars so that there were 80 cars and 12 semis in the ditch between Saturday and Sunday in Iowa alone. Praise the Lord we weren’t part of that count!!

We made it back to PA safely yesterday, Monday, night. We opened our monthly report from BCM to see that our monthly support is basically in! Hallelujah!! We are free to go once our visas arrive. Wow, that feels so good to say.

So, you can be praying for us as we begin to pack and as we wait (ever so patiently) for our visas to finally arrive!
