Our Ministry Overview
Welcome to BCM Peru! This is the Instituto de Biblico Y Ministerial (IBYM – “Institute of Bible and Ministry”), located outside of Lima, in a tiny little village called Picapiedra. Our home as of March 3, 2009!
This campus houses upwards of 60 students, some missionary families, and then ourselves. Our house was completed in May of 2009 at the far side of the campus.
Three of the missionary families would like their children to have English Christian education. Lisa is homeschooling these children in English. Brian is the new head of maintenance on the grounds. This includes a wide array of things to do, including drawing up plans for new building projects (both here and in the jungle), organizing the students for their daily work hours, and keeping up general upkeep of the campus. Brian also makes frequent trips to Iquitos to finish building the new BCM camp up in the jungle.
BCM Peru has many ministries. We are involved in some of these and will be more involved as we continue to improve our Spanish and figure out which ministry suits us best.
The first is Pennies for Peru.
Pennies for Peru Outreaches (called “Compartiendo” – sharing, in Spanish) are held in the streets year-round. The ministry is led by a missionary couple and then carried out by a number of teen volunteers from local churches. Each Saturday, they reach hundreds of children with the Gospel through avenues such as song, mime, clown, and puppet shows. During December, they divide into multiple teams to take Pennies for Peru to three cities with two outreaches per day for two solid weeks every year.
Bible Clubs are also held weekly in local churches. Bible Institute students are also involved in leading them. Eventually, we will be helping with Teacher Training, using BCM’s international material – In Step With the Master Teacher. Visit www.ismt.org for more info on this awesome curriculum.

Other ministries include working in new church plants and evangelistic campaigns in the area. Camps are also held here at the IBYM campus year-round. During the winter months (March through September), we have camps on weekends. During the summer months (mostly January-February), we have camps all week.
We will be the only Americans on campus (for the next few years at least) and will be doing mostly support work. We love being able to be “behind the scenes” and not needing to be out in front, heading up and leading the different ministries. The Peruvian team has been together for 10 years and we are enjoying helping free them up to do the ministry even better.

Dear Lisa,
I read your article in BCM International. Good Job!! I just wondered where you lived while in Pa. You see our church is coming to Peru this July. Do you know anyone from Pine Grove Church in Bowmansville, Pa? I look forward to hearing from you.

Good for you for going to Peru! My wife and I landed in Lima in 2003 and flew to Cusco, where we lived as missionaries for 2 1/2 years. I sure know that feeling of wondering what we had gotten ourselves into when we arrived at the airport. Glory to God! He is faithful and wonderful.
Thanks for the encouragement, Andy! God surely is faithful.
